Snap Cloud powered by Supabase

For over a decade, augmented reality developers have experimented with a multitude of advanced data inputs including heavy 3D assets, GPS coordinates, depth sensors, camera frames and audio files. This data has allowed developers to create groundbreaking immersive experiences where digital objects co-exist seamlessly with physical surroundings.
Today, artificial intelligence has introduced additional possibilities. As AR continues to converge with advancements in machine learning, natural language processing and LLMs, exciting opportunities for AR and AI are becoming more clear–and more data-intensive. This means understanding the importance of robust backend platforms that can provide powerful tools for modern AR development.
The Spectacles team at Snap Inc. has spent years preparing for this meeting of perception and context. We know that developers want more power behind their builds. That’s why we partnered with Supabase, a leading backend-as-a-service platform, to make advanced backend capabilities easy and accessible in Snap’s AR authoring tool, Lens Studio.
We are excited to officially announce Spectacles and Supabase’s partnership with the alpha release of Snap Cloud: Powered by Supabase.
Snap Cloud: Powered by Supabase is designed for Spectacles developers to take advantage of Supabase’s core competencies without any complex set-up, allowing developers to rapidly build, deploy, and scale their Lenses out-of-the-box.
Snap Cloud (alpha) gives Spectacles developers complimentary access to powerful Supabase features including PostGreSQL relational databases, real-time capabilities that quickly retrieve information from select third-party applications, and edge functions that power fast calculations, tasks and integrations.
Snap Cloud (alpha) is just the beginning. As we build toward our consumer Specs launch in 2026, this partnership with Supabase will unlock entirely new kinds of AR and AI experiences. We can’t wait to see what you Build with Snap.
