Bringing the Magic of AR to the Runway at MADE

For over 10 years, MADE has served as a platform for fashion’s next generation. The two-day event showcases New York’s up-and-coming fashion designers alongside a full embrace of arts and culture including DJ sets, live performances, an arts marketplace, and more. It’s where Virgil Abloh’s Off-White formed its roots. Where Hood By Air got its start. This year, Snap AR was thrilled to bring the innovative world of augmented reality to this legendary fashion event.
Meet the Designers
MADE 2022 was curated by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne (Public School) and featured NY-based designers Shanel Campbell (Bed on Water), Kingsley Gbadegesin (K.NGSLEY), and Gil Taveras and Kyle Nelson (Whensmokeclears). After an opening performance by Nas, Saturday’s runway show saw each brand take to the stage for its industry debut — showing off innovative looks from their new collections. As part of the MADE mentorship program, Chow and Osborne will continue to work with each designer in developing their brand’s identity and style.
Elevating Fashion With AR
Guests experienced the seamless blend of fashion and augmented reality throughout the weekend with AR-enhanced runway shows, pop-ups, activations, and more.
On the Runway:
The models weren’t the only ones making an appearance on the runway! During Saturday’s show, guests unlocked exclusive Lenses from each designer that brought the runway to life in AR — think water reflections along the runway from Bed on Water and ethereal clouds from K.NGSLEY.
In the MADE Marketplace:
The MADE Marketplace was open all day for guests to shop limited-edition merchandise, fall in love with new brands, and explore fun pop-ups. Leading up to the event, each designer worked with Snap AR to develop a completely bespoke AR fashion experience in the marketplace. There, guests scanned Snapcodes to transform mannequins into AR-enhanced looks customized to each designer and their brand.
Exclusive AR Fashion Lenses from the designers featured at MADE are now available. Try out KNGSLEY X MADE, BedOnWater X MADE, and WSC X MADE — and let us know what you think!
Thinking Fashion Forward
We’ve seen the impact AR can have on the retail landscape. Try-On Lenses are helping brands around the world make it easier for customers to shop online and deepen the connection between designers and their clientele. At MADE, we showcased how AR can influence the fashion industry beyond just e-commerce — inspiring creativity, offering new mediums of exploration, and creating an environment where fashion is elevated to new heights. When advanced AR capabilities are matched with emerging talent, the results are pure magic.
