At Snap AR, we love to see our technology in action. It’s not only exciting for our community of Creators, but it’s also exciting to get a glimpse into how pop culture will embrace augmented reality for the future—to enhance and re-invent in-person events.
And, Art Basel is no stranger to innovation. The world-renowned Art Fair, with events in Miami and Hong Kong, is always leading the charge for art, creativity, and collaboration by highlighting established and emerging artists. They’re dedicated to creating unique experiences in the art community, and that’s a mission we can get behind.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that our continued collaboration with Alex Israel is coming to Art Basel 2021 in Miami Beach. After our 2019 collaboration at Cannes with the iconic, LA-based artist, we’re taking our collaboration to the world-renowned Art Basel Fair starting on November 29. As an artist, Alex embraces pop culture as a visual language and ties it to his life experiences in Los Angeles. His works are directly connected to place, culture, and how we interact with each of them on a daily basis, and he’s bringing that conversation to Miami.
The exhibit, which will be on display at the Bass Museum, features five experiences based on his “Self-Portrait” collection, two of which have never been seen before. By using an exclusive Snapchat Lens, visitors to the museum will be able to access experiences that directly interface with each of Alex’s portraits. Each portrait uses Snapchat’s Marker Tracking Technology to unlock custom, looping animations. For example, by scanning the “Self-Portrait (Drive),” you’ll be able to take an animated drive through Los Angeles. Other animations include palm trees, pelicans, and dancing avocados, to name a few.
