5.24.1 released October 7 2026

Intel-based Mac support:
Lens Studio 5.25 will be the final release for Intel-based Macs (macOS x86_64). Starting with 5.26, macOS builds will require Apple silicon. Version 5.25 will remain available for download and continue to run on Intel-based Macs.

SPECS developers:
Important: The following is for SPECS 27, and not Spectacles (2024). Spectacles (2024) users should continue using Lens Studio 5.15.xx.

NEW

Cursor visual modes: SpecsInteractionModule.CursorVisualMode adds TranslateHorizontal, TranslateVertical, RotateClockwise, and RotateCounterClockwise. The numeric values of the existing scale modes changed, so refer to modes by name, not by number.

IMPROVEMENTS

Shaders with Batching Enabled turned on now use significantly less CPU time per frame.

BUGS FIXED

Fixed Lenses exported with a Batching Enabled shader never batching on device. Export locked the shader to its unbatched variant.
Fixed batched shader graphs that use Transform, Matrix, or object-space Position and Normal nodes being built around the world origin, so they appeared in the wrong place or disappeared — for example UIKit rounded rectangles. On older SPECS firmware these shaders render unbatched.

BUGS FIXED

Fixed custom 2D Text materials made from the preset Text2D material being ignored: text rendered with the default text shader, and the Logger reported that the Text Data node requires Batching Enabled. The preset now has Batching Enabled turned on. Materials created in 5.24 keep their own copy of the graph, so turn on Batching Enabled in its Shader node.
Fixed Lens Studio crashing at startup on Windows machines without a working GPU driver, where Windows provides only the Microsoft GDI Generic renderer (OpenGL 1.1). Lens Studio cannot run on these machines, so it now shows the system requirements warning and exits.

NEW

SPECS Account: Sign in to Lens Studio with your SPECS developer account. Open or create a Spectacles project and the "My Lenses" menu becomes "SPECS DevPortal", where Login, Account, and Log Out act on your SPECS account. Your SPECS and Snapchat accounts stay signed in at the same time, Lens Studio uses whichever one matches the project's target platform, and both survive a restart. An unverified SPECS account may limit some features.

NEW

Connected Framework: A new real-time multiplayer SDK for building multiplayer matchmaking Lenses. Drop-in components turn any scene into a shared session:
- Matchmaking and sessions: Start from public matchmaking or auto-join the people in a chat; configure min / max / target players, timeout, and retries in the Inspector.
- State sync and spawning: SyncEntity and StorageProperty sync typed state with per-entity ownership (including host-owned); Instantiator spawns networked prefabs with stable shared IDs;
- UI Components: Presence Indicator (a live Bitmoji roster of everyone in the session) and Event Feed (banner callouts for joins, eliminations, and wins).
- Test across devices: Matchmaking in Lens Studio Preview connects to the real matchmaking service, so multiple Preview windows and push-to-device instances can match into the same live session for true multi-player testing.
Multiplayer Starter Template: A minimal sample project wired with Connected Framework. It demonstrates matchmaking, synced players, and basic sync examples so you can learn the framework and extend it into your own Lens.
Multiplayer Game Template: A full matchmaking game template built on Connected Framework. It demonstrates public matchmaking, Bitmoji avatars, and a complete game-state flow with UI transitions: a results screen with per-player cards, a winner callout, and a networked emote picker; spectator mode; a next-match countdown; and ready-made matchmaking, connection-lost, no-match-found, and unsupported-device screens.
Game Manager: A hierarchy-based state machine that automatically manages game scenes and scripts, with multiplayer support.
Physics 2D Starter Template and Package: A new template and set of custom components that provide a 2D Physics engine in Lens Studio. It features Bitmoji ragdolls, physics based vehicles, a pinball example, and more.
Game Suite 2.0: A major update to Game Suite that includes:
- UX update: Improvements to plugin UX including box-fill placement and deletion, object picker, search and filtering of item library, saving/loading games and levels, and more.
- Multiple level support: Progress through levels linearly, or add level portals to jump between them.
- Item behavior system: Add and configure behaviors on individual items, allowing them to move, show text, teleport the player, and more.
- Runtime asset download: Assets are automatically downloaded at runtime, keeping Lens sizes small.
- New Asset Packs: New asset packs have been added, along with new types of assets such as skyboxes.
AI Video Transform GenAI Plugin: Create community Video2Video Lenses by transforming user-recorded video with a text prompt or effect.
AI Photo Duo GenAI Plugin: Create images featuring two selected identities with customizable prompts, example templates, and optional pose references.

Everyone:

NEW

Custom 2D Text Materials: Create new custom 2D Text materials starting from the preset Text2D material in the Asset Browser. Assign to the “Material” field on a Text component to render with your custom material. For more information see https://developers.snap.com/lens-studio/features/text/custom-text-materials.

CHANGES

Default blend mode for 2D Text is changed from PremultipliedAlpha to Normal. This means the engine no longer unconditionally premultiplies alpha. Any text components with blend mode set to PremultipliedAlpha will be automatically updated to Normal when the project is updated. Other blend modes will not be updated and may experience visual changes.

IMPROVEMENTS

Editor API: the deprecated callback fetch(request, onSuccess, onFailure) on AssetListService/MusicListService is removed (it could crash on shutdown) — use fetchAsync(request). Note: fetchAsync will be renamed to fetch in a future release.
VFX was optimized to use less CPU. Lenses with many VFX components stay performant, especially on lower-powered devices.
Character Controller now uses synchronous raycasts to resolve collisions and player movement, improving performance during high-intensity scenarios.

BUGS FIXED

Fixed issue with VFX assets when some examples does not work on iOS devices after push
Fixed application crash when a lot of assets were imported from Asset Library in short period one by one

KNOWN ISSUES

Leaderboard Lenses require Snapchat Mobile version 14.23. Lenses using the Leaderboard component or templates published from Lens Studio 5.24 error on device on Snapchat 14.21 and 14.22.
